KIDS IN THE KITCHEN!
Soup season is here and there are so many options! This Potato Leek Soup, however, has won our hearts completely! If your kids want to help out cooking, there are tons of tips to guide your kids in the kitchen. Some of my kids' fave parts were peeling the potatoes and blending everything together! β₯οΈ
While your kids are helping out, you can also pause to discuss whichΒ FOOD GROUPΒ each ingredient belongs to and share some fun facts about this meal's featured ingredient:Β LEEKS.

- Leeks are in the onion family, but have a milder taste.Β
- Leeks are often used in soups and salads. They can be eaten raw or cooked.Β
- The vegetable is thought to be native to Central Asia and has been cultivated for thousands of years.Β
- Leeks are low in calories but high in antioxidants and vitamins & minerals, like vitamin K.
Here are some creative ways for your kid to be your personal Sous Chef as you make our Potato Leek Soup.Β Just hover over each image for details. And make sure your little dudes wash their hands before starting!

To start soup and cook the potatoes, kids can:
Bring broth to a boil
Peel potatoes
We love this Opinel veggie peeler for kids. Actually, I use it too! We used this Pyrex Measuring Cup and a long wooden spoon to slowly lower the potatoes into the boiling broth.

To work on the veggies, kids may:
Slice celery and leeks*
For chopping, our fave kids knives right now are:Β Curious Chef Knife Set,Β Opinel Knife, &Β Made for Me Beginner's Knife (pictured above). We also used this Pyrex Measuring Cup and a long wooden spoon to slowly lower the veggies into the broth.

To bring everything together, kids may:
Blend the soup
Add cream to soup
We totally recommend a Vitamix. They are pretty expensive, but you can find refurbished ones on Amazon for a bit less.
*Note:Β For toddlers especially, these tasks require adult supervision and/or assistance, as items may be sharp, hot or otherwise dangerous.Β
