Kids Make Bacon and Eggs Benedict with Mixed Greens & Asparagus

Anytime my kids smell bacon, they get excited. So they were happy to help with this meal! It’s also pretty cool to see a poached egg form in hot simmering water.

Here are some creative ways for your kid to be your personal Sous Chef as you make our Bacon and Eggs Benedict with Mixed Greens & Asparagus. Simply hover over each image for details. Make sure your little dudes wash their hands before starting!

🍴Bacon & Eggs🍴

To help out, kids can:

SET OVEN TEMPERATURE

This is a great opportunity to talk to kids about what heat does to food at different temperatures.

ARRANGE BACON ON COOKING TRAY*

Make sure kids wash their hands after handling raw bacon!

Bring water and vinegar to ALMOST a boil

Kids can keep an eye on the water to make sure it doesn't begin to bubble.

Crack egg into a small bowl

Be careful not to puncture the yolk. Once added to the pot, kids will love seeing the egg dance around in hot the water.

🍴Hollandaise Sauce🍴

To help out, kids can:

Stir butter as it melts*

Make sure kids use a long spoon so they don't burn their hands!

Measure and add sauce ingredients to Vitamix/blender

Add butter to sauce mixture

Remind kids to add butter to the blender very slowly.

Blend ingredients in blender/Vitamix

Kids can watch the sauce thicken as it blends.

We used our glass Pyrex to pour melted butter into the sauce mixture, and we love our Vitamix for blending the sauce.

🍴Asparagus & English Muffins 🍴

To help out, kids can:

Trim asparagus

Kids can use kitchen shears to cut up asparagus.

Bring egg water to a rolling boil

Kids can use tongs to carefully drop asparagus into hot water.

After cooking, run asparagus under cold water

Kids can use a towel to dry the veggies.

Slice, butter & toast English muffins

For trimming asparagus, these Kitchen Shears or any standard scissors are great (with adult supervision). We also used these tongs to grip the asparagus.

*Note: For toddlers especially, these tasks require adult supervision and/or assistance, as items may be sharp, hot or otherwise dangerous.
