🐄 Beef 🐄
- Beef is meat from a full grown cattle, about two years old.
- Sirloin is steak cut from the back of the cow.
- Because beef is considered a red meat, it has more iron than chicken or fish.
- Beef is a good source of protein. Foods with protein serve as building blocks for our bodies (e.g., our bones, muscles, cartilage, skin and blood).
Kids Make Classic Beef Stroganoff!
Here are some creative ways for your kid to be your personal Sous Chef as you make our Classic Beef Stroganoff. Just hover over each image for details. And make sure your little dudes wash their hands before starting!
To cook the pasta, kids can:
Bring water to a boil
This teaches kids to pay attention to the stovetop and see what happens to water when it gets that hot. Yay science!
Set timer for pasta
Grownups can take this opportunity to teach kids how to set cooking times.

🍴Veggies & Beef 🍴
To cook the veggies and beef, kids may:
Wear goggles to chop onions!
Goggles will protect little eyes from tearing up.
Kids can pat mushrooms dry with a paper towel
Slice and melt butter on pan
Season beef with salt and pepper
Stir veggies as they cook*
Make sure kids use a long spoon!
Add beef and flour to pan
Kids may like seeing the flour form a paste!
To prepare the sauce, kids may:
Add beef base to hot water
Measure and add Worsteshire sauce to broth mixture
Measure and add smoked paprika
Fold in sour cream
Kids can stir sour cream until well blended
We used this 4-cup Pyrex Measuring Cup to measure/pour the broth.
