Kids Make Shrimp with Corn in Creamy Poblano Pepper Sauce

Anytime a blender is involved, I feel like kids get excited. This is a fun recipe to make with your kids for blending the poblano pepper sauce. Additionally, it’s cool to see the rice become soft and the shrimp become a different color, when cooked.

While your kids are helping out, you can also pause to discuss which FOOD GROUP each ingredient belongs to and share some fun facts about this meal’s featured ingredient: POBLANO PEPPERS.

Poblano Peppers

    • Poblano peppers are thick chili peppers with dark green or red skin.
    • Compared to other peppers, poblano peppers have a milder flavor. However, red poblano peppers tend to be hotter.
    • Poblano peppers originated in Puebla, Mexico and are grown there to this day.
    • There are many health benefits to eating poblano peppers. They contain a cancer-fighting nutrient called capsaicin, which is also what gives them their spicy flavor.

Help thaw frozen shrimp

Kids can either fill a bowl of cold water and add the frozen shrimp, or let cold water run over shrimp in a colander.

Stir shrimp and corn as they cook

Watch the shrimp change color!
