Homemade Shakers with Pasta

Our Homemade Shakers are easy on the ears and simple for even the littlest ones. Use what you have around the house to make music!

Equipment

  • Elmer's Glue Sticks 
  • tape (masking tape, duct tape, or packing tape)
  • 1/2-1 cup uncooked orzo pasta
  • 1 toilet paper roll
  • decorating tools (your choice: markers, paint, tissue paper, decals, stickers)

Instructions

  • Using masking tape, tape the bottom of a toilet paper roll/tube closed tightly.

  • Fill a cardboard tube with the orzo. To minimize the mess,  pour the orzo over a plate or empty bowl to catch the falling pieces. Tape the top of the tube closed tightly.

  • Decorate your shaker with markers, paint, stickers, decals or tissue paper.

Notes

  • If using scotch tape, it might make sense to decorate the shaker before adding in orzo.
  • To minimize the mess, pour the orzo over a plate or empty bowl to catch the falling pieces.
  • If you don't have tissue paper, decorate your homemade shaker with markers, stickers, paint or even string! The options are endless!
