So, we got a little messy and did some fun painting for this craft! In honor of our Baked Cod with Peach & Tomato Salsa recipe, we decided to paint a colorful cod fish. And to make things interesting, we used an actual peach core leftover from the recipe as a stamp/coloring tool for our cod artwork. peach core

When outlining our cod, we had to research the anatomy of a cod, which was super interesting for us all. We learned that a cod has three dorsal fins, two anal fins, and one pair of pectoral fins. Once we outlined our cod, we were ready to get painting!

We painted our peach cores with 3-4 different shades of paint. As we got going, we ended up just dipping the core into the paint colors to get more coverage. Then, we stamped the core onto our fish, which ended up producing a cool texture of lots of small little lines. Then, we used extra paint to fill in the fins and make an ocean background. Messy fun for sure!

    📝instructions📝

Consider setting up the craft before cooking so kids can get to work right away.

    1.  Wash, dry and put aside peach core(s). We wrapped the core in a paper towel to soak up excess moisture.

    2.  Outline a cod fish (see example below).

    3. Pour 3-4 colors of paint into different paint containers. Then use paint brushes to paint the peach core and stamp it onto fish. Repeat until fish is covered with desired amount of paint. [Note: we found dipping the core into the paint to be effective as well]. You can use remaining paint and paint brushes to fill in empty spots, like the cod's fins.

    4. Decorate your picture's background as desired! We stamped our paint brushes in blue paint to create an ocean background.
