We stumbled upon the idea for this Halloween witch craft while making our delicious One Pot Chicken Apple Sausage. Eggplant is not something we eat a lot, so my kids were definitely curious about this unfamiliar purple thing. Lol. So, I decided to make it the focus of our One Pot Fall Pasta and the base for our corresponding fall, Halloween craft (instead of the more typical pumpkin/gourd). Hence, eggplant witches for Halloween!

Eggplant as a Halloween Witch Craft!
Eggplant is a great base for a witch craft (get it, witchcraft?!). Okay, stupid jokes aside, the veggie is soft enough to be easily manipulated, i.e. easy to poke toothpicks through the flesh. And the color is fabulous....and the calyx at the top kinda looks like hair.

This is one craft where you can do whatever you want. I totally winged it, and loved the outcome. I was going for a sorta goofy-spooky vibe with mine. My 6 yo made more of a pretty witch, with long eyelashes. And my 4 yo's witch, well....it has character. And both my kids chose to make arms with toothpicks, which is something I didn't even consider. We put them out on our front stoop next to our pumpkins, and they looked amazing. This really is the perfect Halloween craft!
While crafting, you and your kids might want to take a moment to learn some fun facts about this meal's featured ingredient:

📝instructions for Halloween Witch📝
Consider setting up the Halloween witch craft before cooking so kids can get to work right away.
- Use whatever color paper you like. Cut out eyes, nose, and mouth for the Halloween witch's face. Use a marker to draw pupils, teeth or whatever you like on the facial features.
- Glue the eyes, nose, and mouth on the eggplant.
- Pick another color of paper to make a hat for the Halloween witch. First, cut a large circle. Then cut a large triangle. Decorate the cutouts if you like. On the bottom edge of the triangle, fold over a little strip. With tape, attach the triangle strip to the circle.
- For the broom, cut this shape out of brown paper. Then use scissors to cut the broom head strands.
- Cut a few toothpicks in half. [An adult might be best for this task!] Place the hat on top of the eggplant and stick 2 toothpicks through the taped-down hat strip, on the backside of the hat. Then you can attach the broom to the eggplant witch with a toothpick OR make arms out of toothpicks and then tape the broom to an arm.
- You have an adorable Halloween witch!
*For toddlers especially, these tasks may require adult supervision and/or assistance.
