Supplies for pumpkin felt craft.

Tin can– emptied, washed and died. Note: the cans’ inner rim (where the lid was removed) can be sharp. To dull the inner rim, we wrapped it with a couple layers of tape.

Felt You will need the essential colors for a pumpkin: orange, black and green! I buy felt measuring at least 12×8 inches so I can have plenty of material to work with.

Glue- We love Tacky Glue, but fabric glue or a hot glue gun will also do the trick!

✔️ Tips and Tricks

  • The cans’ inner rim, where the lid was removed, can be sharp. Therefore, to ensure safety, consider wrapping it with a couple of layers of tape to dull the edge.
  • If you are having trouble with the tacky glue, don’t worry—a hot glue gun also works very well with felt. Just be sure to monitor little ones so they don’t burn their skin!
  • Fill your tin can felt pumpkins with candy, party utensils, or even flowers! For a fun touch, load them with a mix of candy, making them great for trick-or-treaters or party favors.
  • Want to add some variety to your festive Halloween cans? Just decorate them with other Halloween characters like black cats, monsters, or Frankensteins! These fun designs will make your display pop even more!

❓ FAQ

What is the best glue for felt?

We prefer to use Aleene’s Original Tacky Glue for our felt crafts because it’s non-toxic and approved for classroom use. However, hot glue guns or adhesive glues will also work, though they tend to be less kid-friendly.

What else can I cover with felt?

Other than empty tin cans, you can cover and transform a ton of other recycled materials into festive art, like glass bottles, empty cans, or cardboard boxes.
