👍 Why We Love Candy Cane Holders

Amazing homemade gifts. There is something so sweet about having kids make vs buy gifts for others. Kids can hand these DIY candy cane holders out to teachers, friends or relatives as gifts or party favors!

Sweet table decor. These felt snowmen make great decorations on holiday tables or dessert displays.

We love felt! The fabric's soft and flexible texture makes it great for cutting, gluing, sewing or shaping into just about anything. It's not terribly expensive, and you can find felt at places like Michaels or online at Amazon.

Fine motor skills. This craft allows kids to put developing tracing, cutting, and gluing skills to good use.

Note: My kids have made beautiful ornaments and holiday decor out of felt. Check out Fun Thrifty Mom's adorable DIY Easy Felt Christmas Ornaments for inspiration! We have also used felt for other crafts, like our Felt Hot Dogs and our Squash Turkey Craft.

    ✂️ Materials

    Notes on supplies:

    • Colored felt- gray or white work really well for the snowman's body.
    • Pom Poms- regular buttons would work as well.
    • Googly Eyes- if you don't have any you can simply draw on the eyes with a marker.
    • Hot glue gun- Tacky glue or a fabric glue are good options as well.

    📝 Instructions

Step 1: Trace and cut out snowman's body. Trace and cut out the outline of a snowman on TWO pieces of felt (one piece will be the front of the snowman, and one will be the back).

Step 2: Trace and cut out snowman's accessories: a hat, scarf, nose and two arms.

Step 3: Secure accessories to snowman. Use a hot glue gun to glue the accessories to the felt cutout that represents the FRONT of the snowman. Then, glue on Googly Eyes and Pom Poms for buttons. Optional: Draw a mouth on the face using a Sharpie.

Step 4: Glue the front and back of your snowman together along the edges of the cutouts, leaving the top open in order to form a pouch to hold a candy cane.

Step 5: Add your candy cane(s). Use the open pouch at the top of your snowman to slip in your candy cane! Now your gift is ready!

☑️ Other Ways to Use Candy Cane Holders

With a little tweaking, there are lots of other homemade gifts you can transform your felt snowmen into.

    • Place card holders! Simply make a wider version of this craft so that the felt pouch is big enough to hold a written name card .
    • Pencil or candle holders. These candy cane holders would also make great holders of pencils, pens or thin candles.
    • Gift card holder. Again, a wider version of this craft can hold a gift card.
    • Napkin rings! Simply glue your candy cane holder to a napkin ring. We make our own napkin rings by covering a halved toilet paper roll with construction paper!
