🛒 Ingredients & Substitutions
See recipe card below for a full list of ingredients and quantities (not pictured: cooking spray).
- Eggs– Six large eggs should do the trick.
- Hawaiian Rolls– Or any slider roll of choice. We love Hawaiian rolls for their fluffy texture and subtle sweetness, which perfectly balances the savory sausage, egg, and cheese. For a less sweet option, go with the savory Hawaiian rolls.
- Sausage– We love using pork breakfast sausage for its bold, zesty flavor, but chicken or turkey sausage also work great. To keep things simple, we chose pre-cooked sausage—but feel free to cook your own patties if you have the extra time.
- Cheddar cheese– Cheddar, Provolone, Muenster, American, or any mild, easy-melting cheese will work perfectly.
- Butter– Since the sausage and cheese already add plenty of salt, unsalted butter is our preference.
- Maple Syrup– We prefer pure, maple syrup instead of imitation or pancake syrup.
👨🏼🍳 How to Assemble these Breakfast Sliders
Step 1. Cover bottom half of rolls with scrambled eggs.
Step 2. Layer on sausage patties.
Step 3. Top with sliced cheddar cheese.
Step 4. Add the tops of the rolls, then brush with maple butter glaze.
✔️ Expert Tips and Tricks
- Use a long, serrated knife to cut Hawaiian rolls in half, while keeping them attached. To keep the rolls steady, place your hand flat on top as you saw back and forth.
- If the cheese slices are too big, just cut them in half and criss-cross over the sausage when building the sliders.
- Cut a few sausage patties in half so they fit snugly and fill the gaps on your sliders.
- Sweetness is up to you—add more or less maple syrup to your maple butter glaze to taste.
- Don’t overcook sliders. If the buns start browning too quickly, loosely cover the sliders with foil and continue baking until the cheese melts.
- Allow breakfast sliders to cool for a few minutes before slicing so they set and hold together better.
🔄 Variations
Skip the scramble—Instead fo scrambling eggs, you can cook them slowly without stirring to make an omelet. The texture changes, but the flavor stays just as delicious!
Change the meat- If you’d like to alter the meat, simply swap the pork sausage for turkey sausage, crispy bacon, savory deli ham, or a meatless option like sliced tomatoes or avocado.
Swap the bread- Instead of Hawaiian rolls, you could change the bread—pretzel buns, mini bagels, biscuits, or English muffins all make delicious breakfast sandwiches.
🍽️ How to Serve Breakfast Sliders with Hawaiian Rolls
Serve these Hawaiian roll breakfast sliders any time of day—breakfast, lunch, or even dinner! They go perfectly with classic breakfast sides like:
- Potatoes– roasted, steamed or fried potato side dish like these cheesy potato pancakes!
- Yogurt– plain or topped with fresh fruit, granola and a drizzle of honey!
- Sliced fruit- or a simple fruit salad.
- Simple veggies– such as sautéed spinach, roasted asparagus, sliced tomatoes, or sweet peas.
🧊 Storing and Reheating
Store – While these Hawaiian roll sliders are best eaten right away, you may store them in the fridge in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
Freeze – For longer storage, freeze the sliders (well wrapped in plastic and sealed in an airtight container) for up to 3 months. Defrost overnight in the refrigerator before reheating.
Reheat – I recommend reheating breakfast sliders in the oven, covered in foil, for 10-15 minutes at 375°.
Tips for Picky Eaters
- Swap the cheese for your kid’s favorite. Cheddar, American, Swiss…the options are endless.
- Let kids pick a side. Sliced apples, cucumbers, or potato pancakes are usually a hit with our crew!
- Leave out the meat. If your kids don’t like sausage, leave it out on a few of the sliders or swap for another meat, like cooked bacon or ham.
❓FAQ
Yes, you can make sliders the day before by simply assembling in baking dish (minus the maple butter glaze), covering with foil, and storing in fridge until ready to bake in the morning. Note: We don’t recommend adding the maple butter glaze until right before you bake otherwise the buns may get soggy.
To prevent sliders from drying out, avoid overbaking. If the buns brown too quickly, cover them with foil and continue baking until the cheese melts.
To prevent soggy buns, bake the sliders on the center oven rack for even cooking. When brushing on the maple butter glaze, avoid letting excess liquid drip down the sides, as this can lead to a soggy bottom.
