👍 Why We Love Carrot Sticks

They are quick and easy to prepare. Carrots are easy to peel and cut into strips or matchsticks. It takes almost no time to cut carrot sticks, and they can last up to a week in the fridge.

They make a great snack.  Carrot sticks make for a great snack on their own, paired with hummus, our pesto sauce, your favorite salad dressing, or even peanut or almond butter.

They are perfect for little hands! We love popping carrot sticks into our kids’ lunches, and they go great with peeled celery sticks and cucumbers, especially if you try this cool trick to cut cucumbers for kids.

🤔 How Thin Is Too Thin?

There are tons of variations when it comes to length. One popular method of cutting ultra thin carrot sticks is the Julienne method. In traditional French cuisine, this method refers to cutting carrots into thin, matchstick-sized pieces. While Julienned carrots make great additions to salads, stir fries, and soups, our goal in this tutorial is to make carrot sticks sized for dipping and/or munching. For that reason, our carrot sticks have a slightly thicker cut- about 2-3 inches long and 1/2-inch by 1/2-inch thick- which make them easier to grasp and dip.

🛒 Ingredients

You will only need whole carrots!

Note: Avoid buying carrots that are cracked or soft. Smooth and firm carrots are ideal.

👩‍🍳 Instructions

  1. Wash, peel and slice off ends of carrot.
  2. Slice carrot in half or into thirds.
  3. Cut each chunk in half lengthwise.
  4. Slice each piece in half again. Repeat to achieve desired thickness of each cut carrot stick.

Notes: To peel carrots, we love this traditional Veggie Peeler or Opinel’s peeler for little hands. If kids are helping out, we recommend Curious Chef knives for cutting or slicing carrots.
