Marshmallows- Large or jumbo. We also love stacker marshmallows which have large, flat surfaces which can be easier to decorate.

Fruit –We used a combination of strawberries, melon and grapes, but choose your favorites!

Candy Eyeballs– You can also use chocolate chips or chocolate sprinkles.

Icing- We use white icing to secure the candy eyes to the marshmallows, but any other sticky spread will work, like peanut butter or Nutella.

👦🏼 Kid Steps

Kids can assemble these fruit kabobs almost entirely on their own! Here are some specific kid-friendly tasks to keep in mind.

  • Chop fruit! We’re big fans of these kid-friendly knives.
  • Decorate! Let kids create the faces on their marshmallow monsters!
  • Assemble! Kids can have fun experimenting with different colors and patterns of fruit. Just make sure to supervise younger children, as the ends of kabob sticks can be sharp.

✔️ Expert Tips and Tricks

  • Supervise little ones as they assemble skewers, as kabob sticks can be sharp at the ends.
  • If packing these Halloween fruit kabobs for school, opt for dull or blunt skewers, such as plastic cocktail straws, to ensure safety for younger children.
  • Allow food coloring marker to dry before assembling fruit skewers so that ink does not smear.
  • Push fruit close together on the skewer, making sure there are no gaps between the pieces. This helps the fruit support each other and gives the skewers a fuller look.
  • Chill kabobs in the fridge until ready to serve. Our kabobs are delicious served cold!
  • Elevate the sweetness by drizzling some melted chocolate over kabobs!

🧊 Storage

These fruit kabobs are freshest when served the same day they are made. However, you can also store Halloween skewers in an airtight container, or individually wrapped in plastic wrap, in the fridge for up to two days. We don’t recommend freezing these kabobs.

❓ FAQ

What can I use in place of wooden skewers?

Although we typically prefer bamboo skewers for most kabob recipes, you can also use metal skewers, wooden chopsticks, or straws—including plastic cocktail straws—for this recipe.

Can I make these kabobs ahead of time?

We recommend preparing these kabobs the day you plan to serve them to prevent the fruit from browning. Store them in the fridge in plastic wrap up to four hours before serving.
