👍 Why We Love this Craft
A food craft! We love crafting with food and food crafts give us a chance to teach kids about some of the ingredients we are cooking with. Our kids made their ghost puppets while I made this Creamy Chicken Pea Skillet with Rice.
Creative play- The nicest part about this craft is that once your kids create their ghost puppets, they can actually play with them and make a puppet show!
Fine motor skills. Our paper ghost craft allows kids to put developing cutting, folding, and gluing skills to good use.
Fun for all ages. This craft is simple enough that kids can largely make their ghost puppets on their own. While younger kids might need assistance with cutting out their ghost, the rest is pretty straightforward.
Messy fun! Kids will love "painting" their ghost puppets with glue and watching as the rice sticks to the glue with such ease. Just be sure to have a plate or tray under your ghost to catch access rice and avoid a huge mess!
🛒 Supplies
Notes on supplies:
- Scissors- we love these kid-friendly scissors
- Construction paper- black is ideal
- Popsicle sticks - optional if you'd like to turn your paper ghosts into puppets
- Plate (or tray)- to catch extra rice and minimize cleanup
- Rice- white rice will show up best on black paper
📝 How to Make Ghost Puppets
- Draw and cut out a ghost on black construction paper.* Draw eyes and a mouth on your ghost.
- Cover all of your ghost with glue except for your ghost's eyes and mouth.
- Sprinkle rice onto a plate. Press the ghost with glue on top of the rice. Turn over and gently shake off access rice onto the plate.
- Tape 1-2 popsicle sticks to the back of your paper ghost to turn it into a ghost puppet!
*For toddlers especially, these tasks may require adult supervision and/or assistance.
➡️ Extend the Fun
We hope your kids will enjoy creating their paper ghost crafts! Here are some ways they can play with their ghosts:
- Make a puppet show!
- Turn ghost puppets into decorations! Hang on the wall, window or door.
- Use paper ghosts crafts as magnets! Instead of taping popsicle sticks to your ghosts, add an adhesive magnets to the back of the ghost and display them on your fridge.
